Interview with Melina Roberts

Author of Building a Healthy Child

Building a Healthy Child

Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?

Orginally from Markham, Ontario, Canada. Reside now in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?

Twelve years ago my husband got a good job offer in Calgary, so we moved out west as a family.

What made you decide to write and publish your first book?

I have information that can help many parents to raise healthy children. I want to help to improve the health of the next generation with the information that I’ve discovered.

How would you describe your books to first time readers?

This is a book that helps to guide parents on how to introduce foods in a way that builds their gut flora from day one.

Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?

New parents or soon-to-be parents or those thinking about having children.

What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?

I had made many discovers that no one else had put together. Which foods we need to be introducing and it which order and at which age to optimize building a healthy gut flora, in line with organ maturation and the understanding that we are hard-wired to eat real foods.

If you could, what advice would you give to past self yourself before embarking on this journey?

I would have spent more time trying to find an agent and a reputable publisher. I think that would have helped to get the message out to a larger audience.

How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?

Millions of new parents. I’d love to change the way people are feeding their babies so we can have a healthy next generation.

What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?

How to get my book out to the masses in a big way.

What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

The biggest strength is the content is this book. It has the potential to change the lives of many people by the way we introduce foods to our babies.

What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

The biggest weakness is knowing how to market the book in a big way without it costing a lot of money to do so.

When do you think you will you write your next book?

Maybe in 2 years.

Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?

Self-published.
