Interview with Jose Rodriguez

Author of Crimes and Misdemeanors: Tales of mystery and Imagination

 

Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?

I was born in Venezuela and I am a resident of the United States since 1985

If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?

I came to the US to do a PhD in Physical Chemistry and remained in the country after getting the degree.

What made you decide to write and publish your first book?

I always loved literature and started writing short fiction. Several friends read my work and encouraged me to publish it.

How would you describe your books to first time readers?

a mixture of fantasy, mystery and social commentary. Most of my work is easy to follow and I like to engage the reader in the plots of of my stories.

Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?

Any person that likes good stories, with a social edge in the areas of mystery and fantasy.

What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?

There is a lot of joy when writing but it is very difficult to predict what the public wants or reads.

How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?

I try to engage readers with my stories but I cannot control how many people will read them. So, I don’t have a specific goal on this point.

What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?

What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

The biggest strength is writing.

What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

The biggest weakness is marketing.

When do you think you will write your next book?

I am writing it right now! I never stop writing,

Self-published and hybrid publisher.
